Sophia Antipolis’ key technology
Designated in April 2019, the French Riviera and Sophia Antipolis are home to one of France’s four Interdisciplinary Artificial Intelligence Institutes (« 3IA »). 3IA Côte d’Azur is concerned with the creation of an innovative ecosystem, with an influential presence at a local, national and international level, and a centre of excellence for research, teaching and the world of AI.
Goals & Missions
The main aim of 3IA Côte d’Azuris to provide universities, companiesand the community with knowledge, algorithms and AI tools,in order to make a meaningful impact in terms of economic value and people’s everyday lives
Supported by Université Côte d’Azur,the French National Centre for Scientific Research [CNRS] and the French National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology [Inria], 3IA Côte d’Azur brings together local players. It is located in the heartof the technology park, on the Inria site.
Soph.I.A Summit
The 1st international summit dedicated to artificial intelligence
A rendezvous for academic and industrial partners, the Soph.I.A.Summitis a major event whose task is tobring together all the players who help build, grow andmake AI attractive on the French Riviera, hot on the heels of 3IA Côte d’Azur.
Soph.I.AWeek was organisedfollowing on from the success of the first two editions of the Soph.I.A Summit. . During the week-long event dedicated to Artificial Intelligence, meetings are held between companies, researchers, students and local people, who are allco-creators of innovation and new uses of A.I. The Soph.I.AWeek explores the major scientific issues addressed by 3IA Côte d’Azur,in the presence of prominent international experts.

ICAIR (Industrial Council of Artificial Intelligence Research) was officially launched on 20 June 2019 to enable researchers working in industrial fields to exchange views about issues related to the use of AI in their respective industries. There were initially 8 members (ACRI-ST, Amadeus, Arm, IBM, NXP Semiconductors, Orange, SAP Labs France and Thales Alenia Space) which have since been joined by Renault Software Labs, Accenture and Air France KLM.

Institut EuropIA aims to support the cultural adaptation of the general public to AI by making humans central to the subject. Conferences and events are organised throughout the year.

Wishing to support responsible and ethical Artificial Intelligence, in which humans are central to considerations, in November 2019, the Alpes-Maritimes Department, Université Côte d’Azur, the Sophia Antipolis Urban Community [CASA] and Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, set up an observatory where the various impacts of AI on our world and society can be analysed: OTESIA, The Observatory of the Technological, Economic and Social Impacts of Artificial Intelligence.

EducAzur is a professional non-profit association, bringing together the main digital education players to stimulate technological innovation in the area and accelerate the up-take and use of digital technology by all.
It constitutes a cluster of large groups, SMEs, start-ups, research bodies, training organisations, and public and private education institutions, which is helping to give rise to a local population and workforce with a level of education which meets the demands of the digital world. The EducAzur Cluster chairs the French national “Ed’Tech/Entertainment” thematic network.

– A unique institution in France, La Maison de l’Intelligence Artificielle provides demonstrations, sharing and convergence of interests around Artificial Intelligence. It also fosters cooperation in order to increase innovation through territorial data. The 700 m² surface area includes an exhibition area, a training zone and a collaboration area known as the AI Lab.
SCS CLUSTER
A regional hub located in the PACA region with 304 members, who support the Secured Communicating Solutions sector in the Sophia Antipolis technology park. This sector witnesses many innovations and technological breakthroughs; it focuses on 4 key areas (Microelectronics, Digital Security, the Internet of Objects, Big Data & AI), serving 5 rapidly growing application markets (Industry 4.0, Smart Cities, Logistics & Transport, E-health & Wellbeing and Connected Vehicles).
SCS also intends to promote the set-up and engineering of local collaborative FUI projects or other regional/European systems in the sector, generate industry first technological developments in the hub’s 4 strategic fields, work on microelectronics, collaborate in SAFE-Booster – EducAzur – Inriatech projects and finally coordinate the sector in synergy with the local ecosystem.

Telecom Valley is a professional non-profit association which brings together Sophia Antipolis’ key players in Information Technologies and Communication. It constitutes a network of large groups, SMEs, research and training organisations, institutional partners and standardisation bodies.
With its 160 members, representing 18,000 employees and 40,000 students, Telecom Valley has coordinated the Riviera’s digital ecosystem in the French Tech Côte d’Azur territory for the last 28 years. Telecom Valley intends to revitalise the digital industry in the region, supported by the network of expertise represented by the members of the association and its partners.

DATA SCIENCE TECH INSTITUTE
DSTI is a private higher education institution, with dual status of a vocational training institution and a private higher education institution. DSTI trains Data Scientists and data engineers, offering Artificial Intelligence and Big Data courses. The school also enables its students to obtain two industrial degrees

Located on the SophiaTech campus, its innovative and world-class courses cover the following domains: Buildings, Electronics and Industrial Computing, Biological Engineering, Water Engineering, Applied Mathematics and Computer Modelling and Science.
UNIVERSITÉ CÔTE D'AZUR
An Initiative of Excellence (IDEX) accredited institution and an intensive research university, UCA is one of the 10 leading universities in France and offers various multi-disciplinary courses on its Sophia Antipolis campus. UCA offers short courses at the IUT (University Institute of Technology), Master’s courses in business and management at the IAE (Institute of Business Administration) and Master’s and PhD courses at its 8 University Research Institutions. The courses are supported by the research undertaken in the university’s laboratories. Students therefore become aware of the university’s research themes while completing their undergraduate degree course.
La Maison de l’Intelligence Artificielle
In partnership with Sophia Antipolis, on 10th March 2020, the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Council inaugurated la Maison de l’Intelligence Artificielle (MIA), a place which makes humans central to Artificial Intelligence considerations. Across a surface area of almost 700m², Alpes-Maritimes residents can learn about issues and challenges stemming from Artificial Intelligence.
